The Great Race
This Wednesday, join a team of 10-15 students and compete to be the ultimate champion of the great race. The Great Race is a team competition that feels like a scavenger hunt, Amazing Race, and Survivor all came together.
The champion will need to combine brains and strength and strategy to win!
Overview
You and your friends will be assigned to a team of 10-15 people. Once the race begins you will be given access to a map of different stations, each with different possible point values. The more difficult a station, the higher the points!
You will have to work together to determine the best route and which stations you want to complete as a team. You will not have all the information of the station until you get there.
Stations test skill, endurance, brainpower, teamwork, and a few surprises. There's a little something for everybody!
Rules
Every good competition needs a few rules. There will be referees moving about the event and will enforce penalties to anyone breaking them.
General
- While traveling your entire team must be holding onto your rope.
- Do not enter any off limits areas (clearly marked on map).
- Listen to all leaders at all times.
- Keep phones in pockets at "no phone" stations.
- Cheating of any kind will result in failure of a station or disqualification from the competition.
Station Rules
- If you fail a station, you must attempt at least one other station before returning to retry.
- You can only successfully complete each station once.
- Reward coins should be held by the team leader, lost coins will not be replaced.
- You can not trade, swap, or give coins to another team in any way.
- Each station can have one team "on deck" to be next in line to complete the station.
Frequently Asked Questions
When do I need to be there?
Doors will open at 6:30pm where you will check in and be assigned a team.
Does it cost anything?
We have an entry fee of $0. Completely free to participate and compete!
What if I don't have a team?
That's ok! When you enter the team registration area our leaders will make sure that you get assigned to a team.
What if I don't have enough people for a full team?
Not a problem! When you enter the team registration area we will send you or your group together to a team assignment that has enough room.
Won't a team of 15 have an advantage?
Nope! Most stations have a set number of people needed to complete a challenge. So a team of 15 will just have more people to rotate through.
What if I hate running?
Well good news, this isn't actually a "race." You've got one hour to complete as many stations as possible to earn as many points as possible. You're just moving from one station to another and you have to do it attached to a rope, so you aren't going anywhere crazy fast.
What do I wear?
You probably don't want to be coming to me for fashion advice, but due to the nature of the activities I'd recommend something you can move around in and closed toe shoes. There are activities that could require laying down.
Is there dinner?
There is no dinner provided for this event.
What grades can attend?
Any students currently in 7-12th grade.
What if there's a station I don't want to do?
Your team gets to choose the stations you go to, so you get to choose! Also each station has a different number of needed "players" so not everyone will participate at each station.
Will there be a service?
Yes, after the race completes we will have a service with worship and a message!
What if I don't want to participate in the great race but want to come to service?
There will be a spectator area outside at the couches/tables where you can watch the race unfold and wait for service!
Where do I get picked up?
Pick up happens in the same spot as drop off in front of the student ministry entrance. Students will be let out around 9:00pm.
